Events at St James Kidsway

Our Noah's Ark Disco was a fantastic evening of fun, raising $310 towards a new carpentry cabinet for our tamariki. Thank you to everyone who supported this event!

A big thank you to everyone who supported our Domino's Pizza Fundraiser! Together we raised $235, with every dollar going towards our new carpentry cabinet to enrich hands-on learning for our tamariki.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Pink Ribbon Morning Tea! Together we raised $220.70 for the Breast Cancer Foundation. We were also delighted to donate our leftover food to Palms Lifecare Rest Home, where residents enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of sweet treats and savouries.

Throughout June, we collected new pyjamas to help keep children and families in need warm this winter.

Our CookieTime Fundraiser is now underway! Families can collect orders from now until the second week of Term 3. Funds raised will go towards adding a fun new feature to our existing bike track, creating even more exciting opportunities for our tamariki to ride, explore, and develop their confidence and physical skills.

We had a special visit from St John, with Sue, one of their educators, and Ambie the miniature ambulance.

Sue talked to the children about what to do when someone is hurt and who we can ask for help. We learnt about the different types of emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire trucks and police cars, and most importantly, the emergency number we call when we need help — 111.

The children enjoyed meeting Ambie and learning about how St John helps people in our community. It was a fun and valuable opportunity to build the children’s understanding of safety, emergencies and knowing what to do when someone needs help.

On Friday 28 August, our preschoolers enjoyed an exciting visit to the Stardome Observatory, extending their growing interest in space, planets, stars and the wonders of God’s amazing creation.

The children had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the universe through an engaging, hands-on experience. Their visit encouraged curiosity, wonder and a sense of awe as they discovered more about the world beyond our own planet.

It was a wonderful opportunity to take our learning beyond the classroom and inspire the children to keep asking questions, exploring and discovering.

We had a special visit from Harold the Giraffe, who helped us learn about our emotions, calming our bodies and being good friends.

We explored how God gave us our emotions and practised ways to manage big feelings using breathing, our five senses, music, movement and sensory activities. We also enjoyed games, puzzles and the Banana Salute while learning how to care for and encourage our friends.

We were reminded that God made each of us special and unique, and explored Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loves at all times.”

And what a wonderful surprise to discover that Mrs Wilson had secretly dressed up as Harold!
